Fertilizing the Soil: Define Missions
51% of Christians in North America do not recognize or understand the Great Commission! What is missions and why does it matter? If you desire to send workers to the nations, how will you answer these questions? Good soil is necessary to produce good fruit. The “fertilizer” of a clear missions definition will enhance the soil and determine the health of missions in our churches.
Matthew Ellison
Matthew was rescued by Jesus when he was 23. Shortly after, he found himself in Ghana, West Africa on the first of what would be many ventures to the mission field. That first trip, Matthew says, “ruined me for anything less than a life lived for God’s global purpose.”
In 1993 he began serving at Calvary Church of Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he graduated from their School of Ministry. He served as missions pastor at Calvary Church for nine years, developing and launching a strategic missions ministry that gave thousands the opportunity to experience the mission field first-hand.
Currently, Matthew coaches local churches in strategically focused missions, helping them discover and use their unique gifts in partnership to make Christ known among all nations. Matthew is the Chief Ministry Officer and co-founder of Sixteen:Fifteen, and currently lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico with his wife, Renee, and their three children.
