How we break through the barriers
To reach the 40% who have never heard, we cannot rely on traditional methods alone.
Pioneers Media focuses on four strategic, interconnected areas of ministry that help overcome barriers and establish new communities of faith among unreached people groups.
What is media outreach?
Pioneers Media uses digital media to help people in unreached communities encounter the message of Jesus—often in places where there may be no church, no Christian friend and no safe way to ask spiritual questions openly.
Through digital engagement, spiritual seekers can explore questions about Jesus and connect with trained believers who areready to walk with them toward deeper conversation, discipleship and church community.
We approach digital media in two ways.
1. Engaging seekers across the Arab World
Pioneers Media’s history is rooted in North Africa, and we continue to maintain a strong focus on the Arab world. Through social media and ministry websites, we develop and share digital content designed specifically for Muslims who are seeking, open and ready to hear the truth of the gospel.
Today, it is possible to place relevant content in front of a very specific audience through phones and computers—much like the way online content is tailored to people based on their interests and searches. This creates a unique opportunity to reach those who may never have another safe chance to hear about Jesus, making it possible for people to begin seeking Him quietly and privately online.
But digital content alone is not the goal. Its purpose is to open the door to conversation. Pioneers Media has teams of trained national believers who are ready to respond online to those who want to know more, answer questions and help seekers take the next step toward following Christ.
2. Connecting online seekers with disciple-makers
Pioneers Media’s second digital media approach is seen through the church-planting teams it coaches. Using contextualized digital content, these teams identify spiritual seekers online, begin conversations and build trust with those who are open to exploring questions about Jesus.
Their goal is not simply to have online conversations, but to help seekers move toward real relationships with disciple-makers who can walk alongside them in discovery, obedience and spiritual growth. This work requires patience and discernment. In many places, seekers are cautious, conversations are sensitive and trust must be built carefully. Yet through this process, many who first encounter the message of Jesus online are connected with local believers who can help them take the next step toward discipleship and life in Christian community.
Digital engagement is often the first step—not the end goal. Through both of these approaches, Pioneers Media is helping more unreached people encounter the gospel, connect with disciple-makers, and begin a journey that can lead to ongoing discipleship and the growth of new communities of faith.
Discipleship
Pioneers Media helps believers grow intheir faith and equips leaders who can disciple others, strengthen the church, and help new communities of believers take root among unreached people groups. We approach this work in two ways.
1. Equipping believers and leaders for ministry in the Arab World
One Pioneers Media team focuses specifically on discipleship and leadership training for believers from Muslim backgrounds across the Arab world and among Muslim-majority people groups in Africa. Through contextualized Bible study and leadership development, believers are grounded in Scripture, strengthened in their faith and equipped to disciple others within their own communities.
This training goes beyond new believers. It also equips pastors, ministry leaders and emerging leaders to train others, strengthen local fellowships and help establish new churches inplaces where there may be little or no church presence. Following the pattern of 2 Timothy 2:2, this work prepares leaders who are able to train and support others in turn.
A growing part of this ministry is orality training for oral learners. Using methods such as memorization, storytelling, discussion and other oral learning approaches, this training helps believers engage Scripture deeply and share it effectively with others. In many contexts across the Arab world and Africa, it has become one of the most practical and requested tools for discipleship and leadership development.
2. From online seeking to ongoing discipleship
Discipleship is also a vital part of Pioneers Media’s digital media ministry. When spiritual seekers connect online and choose to follow Christ, the goal is not simply an online conversation—itis ongoing discipleship that helps new believers grow, connect with local disciple-makers where possible, and move toward life in Christian community.
Pioneers Media’s digital teams work to ensure that seekers who begin their journey online have opportunities to be supported by trained disciple-makers and church planters. Whenever possible, that discipleship happens in person through local relationships. In situations where in-person follow-up is not yet possible, online discipleship can provide an important first step until deeper local connection is established.
This continuity matters. Digital engagement may be the first step, but discipleship helps new believers stand firm in difficult contexts, grow in Christ and become part of the long-term work of strengthening and multiplying the church among unreached people groups.
Through both of these approaches, Pioneers Media helps believers mature in Christ, equips leaders to train others and supports the growth and multiplication of churches among unreached people groups.
Coaching
Pioneers Media coaches church-planting teams to use digital strategies effectively so they can identify spiritual seekers online, connect them with disciple-makers, and strengthen efforts toward church multiplication among unreached people groups.
This work reflects the innovative DNA of Pioneers Media. Over time, our coaching has grown through testing, learning, refining and adapting in real ministry contexts. As we have coached teams in different regions and settings, we have continued to sharpen both our methods and our focus—learning what helps teams engage seekers more effectively and what best supports long-term fruit.
What began with one team in Southeast Asia has grown into coaching relationships with teams across the Muslim world and beyond. Along the way, we have seen significant fruit: seekers engaging online, new believers being discipled, discovery groups multiplying and churches being planted in places where few had existed before. These experiences have helped us identify the practices, patterns and priorities that contribute most to fruitful ministry.
Today, Pioneers Media is building on those lessons by focusing more intentionally on church-planting networks and proven movement practitioners. Rather than simply coaching isolated teams, we are increasingly equipping leaders who can help multiply effective digital media strategies across broader networks of disciple-makers and church planters.
Coaching remains a place of ongoing innovation for Pioneers Media. We continue to evaluate what we are learning, improve our processes and adapt our strategies so that more church-planting teams can engage seekers, strengthen discipleship, and increase their effectiveness among unreached people groups.
Innovation
The dictionary definition of innovation is: a new idea or method. But what does it mean to be innovative?
To be innovative means to introduce new ideas, methods, or products that create value, solve problems or significantly improve existing things, requiring creativity, strategic thinking, and often collaboration to turn concepts into reality, whether through small improvements or entirely new creations. It's about seeing possibilities, challenging the status quo and implementing change effectively.
Innovation has been at the heart of our ministry at Pioneers Media since we began in 1959. We have always looked ahead to new ideas for sharing the gospel among the unreached, seeking out the most effective methods. We embrace change, adapt to new technologies and move forward with what is most appropriate to the cultures and societies we live in today. Having innovation at the heart of our ministry has led us from printed leaflets, radio broadcasting and television programming to internet ministry, strategic digital media and now coaching. Without innovation as one of our core values, we would not be where we are today.
And we won’t stop there. We will always look ahead and adapt, sharing God’s love with the unreached in the most effective ways possible. This means that, with Pioneers Media, you can be confident that we are always preparing for the future, finding new ways to connect with the unreached and make Christ known among all nations.
