Hiroshima was the target of the first atomic bomb, which the U.S. dropped on August 6, 1945. See that shell of a building? It was one of the few structures that survived the bombing. Today, the site has become Peace Park, a memorial with several monuments and museums dedicated to the legacy of Hiroshima and the people who were lost there.
