Farha came to a Christian medical clinic serving vulnerable people in the Middle East. We went to her home for a wellness check after she gave birth, presented her with a new baby blanket and prayed for mother and child in the name of Jesus.

Farha stopped us at the end of our prayer and said, “Who is this Jesus?”

We asked if she had heard of Him. Then she told us her story.

Blankets in the name of Jesus

Two years before, Farha was fleeing her village when radicalized rebels came and killed her father and brothers. Her mother and young siblings all fled into the mountains. They had nothing.

But then, an old Arab man with a white beard came to them, offered them food and a blanket, and told them he did this “in the name of Jesus.

Who is this Jesus?

After several days, they found a U.N. refugee camp and stayed there for a year before receiving asylum and coming to another Arab country to be processed. Farha’s family found a one-room apartment in a poor area of town. That first night, they were lying on the carpet with no money or resources and shivering from the cold.

Then, a knock came at the door. An Arab Catholic nun stood at the door with blankets and gave them blankets “in the name of Jesus.”

Who is this Jesus?

Now, married and a new mom, she accepted a baby blanket and our prayers, but she had a question.

“Who is this Jesus? Every time I have a great need, He sees me.”

Pray for Farha and others who hear about Jesus. May they desire to know more of Him.

It was 2018 when Hanedi’s husband, Mahdi, told her he wouldn’t be fasting during Ramadan with her that year. And that was only the beginning.
