Dogs bark, roosters crow, birds sing, bells ring and the call to prayer sounds out. Any of them may wake you in the morning in this place. The island has mountain peaks, forests, waterfalls and beaches, all reflections of a brilliant Creator Who is yet unknown by the people who live there.

And so, the search is on, a search to fill their deepest longings. Many turn to sacred rituals, worldly means or both.

The long-term team here is involved with a local school where they are building relationships and investing in the students as they develop both academically and emotionally.

“The youth here are on our hearts,” they say. “We’d love to see more of their hearts be softened and respond to the opportunity to have a relationship with Jesus. You’ll be able to speak into the lives of these youth and their families and share how you, too, have been redeemed from darkness and have a hope that you can’t wait to share with others.”

Education majors will have a specific class placement where they can develop as an educator alongside a classroom teacher and have practical experience.

Interested in the outdoors or agriculture? You may work on the school farm, planting, tending and harvesting diverse crops and learning aquaponics.

Field Activities

  • Language and culture study: Edgers may learn about many cultures and religions including Hinduism, Islam and Catholicism. They may participate in lessons to learn one of several languages.
  • Sightseeing: Edgers will see the major tourist sites as well as others in order to get a picture of the history of this island and how it still plays an important part in the cultures here.
  • Intercession: Edgers will be invited to participate in both collective and individual times of intercession, which may include prayer walking in different places to intercede for the people and work there.
  • Teaching: The Edgers may teach or share the word in small groups, in their classes at the school, and at youth group gatherings.
  • Sports: There are lots of opportunities for playing sports at the school, at the beach and in other places around the island. These could take place on a weekly basis. Schools host a whole school Sports Day in July which the Edgers will volunteer with some of the events.
