To meet Syrians, Iranians or any other group of people once required traveling to their respective countries, but people from many corners of the world now live on our doorsteps. This opens doors for the advance of the gospel among the unreached.
Four centuries ago, hundreds of pilgrims set sail for the “New World” and arrived as immigrants to a foreign land. Today, immigrants are coming to the region that these pilgrims once departed from. A British city with a population of less than 300,000 has become a receiving city for refugees and asylum seekers. Though practical resources and aid programs help refugees, asylum seekers and their families, few in the local church community have a strategic focus on meeting their need for a savior. A Pioneers team is now helping bridge this gap.
In partnership with an international language school and a network of local churches, Edgers will have opportunities to both make cross-cultural friendships among the refugee and asylum seeker communities and offer training and resources to local churches with hearts for the nations on their doorstep.
Field Activities:
- Lead English conversation clubs for refugees and asylum seekers
- Extend hospitality and facilitate discovery Bible studies
- Participate in prayer and gospel witness in the streets
- Visit mosques and/or immigrant-owned shops
- Join refugees in camping and other outdoor recreational activities
- Volunteer at local non-profit humanitarian charities that serve refugees
- Develop a media project helping to tell the story of the refugee.
- Come alongside local volunteers
- Help lead and develop cross-cultural training programs
